Rush Mountain Trail Moderate 3.6 miles
This trail takes us through Rush , Arkansas an old mining town which is a ghost town now but in its day was quite a busy place it was established in 1880 when zinc ore was discovered and the town endured until the 1960’s. Some of the buildings still exist today. The trail will take us past numerous old mines that we are warned to stay out of because they are very unstable….. there are a few steep but not long areas to go through, this is why it is rated moderate. We have not hiked this trail before so it will be an adventure for all of us. Let’s take picnic lunches and drinks on this hike, be sure to bring a blanket or ground cover to sit on. I don’t know if there is a picnic area close or not.
It will take about 2 hours to get to the trailhead, it is located in the Buffalo National River recreation area, so we will meet at Dover at 8:00AM on the parking lot of the Millard Henry Clinic in Dover , where we will compact and convoy up to the trail head. I think this will be a unique hike so make plans to join us. Everyone is invited to walk with us. Young people under the age of 16 will need a sponsor or parent to accompany them on the hike.
Don’t forget your water, cameras, walking sticks, insect repellent, med’s, snacks, hats, sunglasses and whatever you think you may need for the day. For more information please contact: Fran Ferris 968-3518 franferris@suddenlink.net or Jane McGregor 968-2637
